Exit 164: All in All, A Fun Year in Husky Hoops

2010-11 UW basketball team produced a spate of great memories.

By about 4 p.m. yesterday, I was tired of lamenting the late-game turnovers against UNC, or the midseason slump that sent the Huskies to Charlotte, or the refs and instead thinking back to what a pretty solid year this was (on the court, at least). Remember that I have been a Husky hoops fan since the Andy Russo years, when the idea of playing North Carolina possession for possession would’ve been outrageous.

So let’s remember the good times.

–A third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance for only the third time in school history.

–The third NCAA tournament victory of this decade, and it’s only 2011. The Huskies have won three tourney games in a decade only twice: the 1950’s and the 2000’s (it took until ’06).

Isaiah Thomas blossoming into an NBA prospect.

Terrence Ross, shooting without mercy, especially against USC early in the year.

C.J. Wilcox’ 24-point half vs. UCLA.

–So many alleyoops! But especially the one in that early run against UNC.

–And, of course, Cold-blooded. (Up to 425,887 views!)

In other news…

In case you lost it in the Huskies’ run, the Sounders lost 1-0 to New York. Your Sounders still don’t have a goal after two games. They play next on Friday at Qwest against Houston.

Got to see the M’s in Peoria yesterday. Erik Bedard was strong through four innings, though he lost command in the fifth, he worked out of a jam there. Erik Bedard Threat Level remains at ELEVATED. The M’s won 5-1, with the big “blow” being Milton Bradley’s bases-loaded chopper that went over the third-baseman.

Michael Pineda pitches today for the M’s, trying to nail down a spot in the rotation.
