The NHL does not want to move out of Phoenix. They’re looking at demographics and TV sets, not whether the market will support hockey.
The team to look into stealing (and that’s what it’ll be) would be the New York Islanders. The Isles are next-to-last in attendance, are clearly the third-favorite team in a three-team market, have an owner who is a bit dubious regarding his past financial dealings (who has said if he had it all to do again, he wouldn’t have bought the Isles), the team hasn’t been a real factor since the Bossy-Trottier-Potvin dynasty and play in a Nassau Coliseum in greater need of an upgrade than KeyArena would be.
If there’s a team in the National Hockey League that’s ripe for the plucking, it’s the New York Islanders…and Greater NY probably wouldn’t miss them if they left.

No one wants to buy the Coyotes and keep them in Phoenix. I think it’s telling when a successful owner like Jerry Reinsdorf, who once showed interest in purchasing the Coyotes, is no longer interested.
