Sounders’ Evans Voted MLS Player Of Week

Sounders midfielder Brad Evans is Major League Soccer Player of the Week, as voted by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). Evans scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 win over FC Dallas Sunday at CenturyLink Field. He also filled in as defender in a scoreless draw against Real Salt Lake last Wednesday.

This is the first time in Evans’ six-year MLS career that he has been voted the award.

Evans started at right back in Seattle’s midweek draw with RSL, and filled in as center back after Seattle went a man down following the ejection of defender Zach Scott. Four days later, Evans converted a first-half penalty kick and then regained the lead in the second half.

The victory pushed Sounders into second in the MLS Western Conference playoff race.

Evans is the third Sounder to win the award. David Estrada won in week 2 and Eddie Johnson was honored in weeks 22 and 27.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.

Evans and the Sounders return to action Wednesday at CenturyLink field when they host CD Marathon of Honduras in a CONCACAF Champions League match. The Sounders close out their MLS regular season with a visit to the L.A. Galaxy Sunday.
