CenturyLink To Host Gold Cup Matches July 11

CONCACAF officials announced Wednesday that national teams from Canada, Martinique, Mexico and Panama will play 2013 Gold Cup matches at CenturyLink Field Thursday, July 11. Kickoff for the Panama-Martinique is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PT., immediately followed by Mexico vs. Canada at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the Gold Cup Group A matches will go on sale March 21 at 10 a.m.  Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster by phone (800-745-3000) and the CenturyLink Field Box Office. One ticket will be good for both matches.

The Gold Cup format will feature a 12-team field divided into three four-team groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals along with the two best third-place teams.

The Gold Cup, previously hosted in Seattle in 2005 and 2009, is held every two years and serves as North America’s top international competition. The United States, Canada and Mexico qualified automatically, and will be joined by Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti and Martinique from the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize, El Salvador and Panama from Central America.

Mexico is the defending champion.

Wish they would keep the Gold Cup to the years RIT after the World Cup, instead of adding the years before the WC. If they want to keep the second cycle, they should restrict it to teams that aren’t in the WC Hexagonal qualifying, so the non-WC teams can get game time and the WC-competing teams don’t get stretched too thin.
