The Seahawks Tuesday promoted Rocky Seto, who has held a variety of positions with the franchise since 2010, to assistant head coach/defense. Over the past two seasons, Seto has helped Seattle lead the league in passing defense while boasting three All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections in safety Kam Chancellor, cornerback Richard Sherman and safety Earl Thomas.
Seto joined Pete Carroll’s staff at USC in 2001 and worked with safeties, linebackers and the secondary before serving his final season as defensive coordinator/secondary coach in 2009. He moved with Carroll to Seattle in 2010 and served as quality control/defense his first season, defensive backs/safeties coach in 2011 and defensive passing game coordinator the past two seasons.
Seto played linebacker at USC in 1997-98 after transferring from Mt. San Antonio Junior College in Walnut, CA. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Seto began his coaching career in 1999 as a volunteer assistant at USC.
During his time with the Trojans, Seattle native Taylor Mays was an Associated Press All-America selection for three consecutive years. Seto also tutored All-America linebackers Roy Maualaga, Matt Grootegoed and Lofa Tatupu and safety Troy Polamalu.
