Andrew Harvey of Sportspress Northwest will get a chance to fulfill a professional passion by adding play-by-play broadcasting to his repertoire starting Friday when he joins the Sounders radio broadcast team part-time.
A Seattle native and graduate of Lakeside High School and, in 2015, Carleton College in Minnesota, Harvey will fill a vacancy on Friday’s 7:30 p.m. broadcast of the Sounders game at Vancouver on KIRO-FM 97.3 while regular radio voice Matt Johnson performs the televised broadcast on Q13 Fox.
Harvey previously worked on the broadcasts of the Sounders’ USL affiliate, S2.
“I was already very excited to join the broadcast team for S2,” he said, “but the chance to do radio play-by-play for the first team in my hometown is a tremendous opportunity for me to gain more experience at the highest level. I’m thrilled to have the chance.”
After his football career at Carleton ended due to injury, Harvey turned to broadcasting men’s and women’s soccer on the school’s station, as well as baseball and softball. Last year he broadcast games for the PDL Kitsap Pumas (now Kitsap SC in the NPSL).
He is a co-host on Radio Cascadia, a weekly podcast covering the Sounders, Timbers and Whitecaps, and co-hosts Cascadia Live on KJR Sports Radio 950 on Saturday mornings.
Harvey will also do the Sounders game at Chicago May 13 and others to be determined. He’ll also continue his reporting for SPNW on the Sounders and other Seattle-area sports.
