The Mariners, as expected, activated SS Jean Segura from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday and placed him on the 25-man active roster. Segura, who will take the place of INF Mike Freeman, optioned to AAA Tacoma Monday, started Tuesday night when the Mariners began a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.
Segura, 27, appeared in three games, including two starts at shortstop, on a rehab assignment with AA Arkansas. He went 1-for-11 (.091) with one run and one walk. Segura was injured April 10 vs. Houston.
Prior to the injury, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound infielder was batting .313 with six runs, one home run, three RBIs and three stolen bases in eight games . He was acquired from Arizona along with OF Mitch Haniger and LHP Zac Curtis Nov. 23.
In six MLB seasons, Segura has hit .280 with 319 runs, 44 home runs, 211 RBIs and 132 stolen bases in 640 games. He was signed by Los Angeles Angels as a non-drafted international free agent in 2007 before spending time in the Milwaukee (2012-15) and Arizona (2016) organizations.
