Huskies fall to 16th, WSU rises to 15th in AP poll

Washington took the biggest dive — seven spots to No. 16 — of any ranked team in the AP football poll, while Washington State moved to No. 15.

Washington tumbled seven spots to No. 16 while Washington State rose four places to No. 15 in the Associated Press College football rankings released Sunday. The Huskies (8-2, 5-2) and Cougars (9-2, 6-2) are in reverse order in the coaches poll, also released Sunday, UW at No. 15, WSU at No. 16.

Washington lost Friday night at Stanford 30-22 while Washington State defeated Utah 33-25 in Salt Lake City Saturday. The Cougars moved into first place in the Pac-12 North over the Cardinal (7-3, 6-2) for winning head-to-head against Stanford a week ago.

No team in the AP poll took a bigger dive than Washington’s seven spots. Notre Dame dropped six spots to No. 9 after falling to Miami 41-8. Georgia, No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, fell five places from No. 2 to No. 7 after losing to Auburn 40-17.

Unranked a week ago, Stanford is No. 20 in the AP poll while USC, a 38-24 winner over Colorado, is No. 10, up three spots. The Trojans lead the Pac-12 South at 9-2, 7-1.

The Huskies collected 575 points from AP voters, down from 1,061 last week, while the Cougars received 614.

Alabama (10-0) remained No. 1 in the AP poll with 1,521 points. The Tide is followed by No. 2 Miami, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Wisconsin.

In the coaches poll, Washington (917 points) dropped seven spots to No. 15 while Washington State (587) advanced four places to No. 16. USC moved to No. 10 while Stanford came in at 23rd.

Washington hosts Utah Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN while Washington State gets a bye ahead of the Nov. 25 Apple Cup in Seattle.

    Though I didn’t think the Huskies would match last years success they really should be undefeated right now. Like the Seahawks injuries are catching up with the Dawgs. They really needed Chico on Friday.
