The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday the watch list of candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, which includes Washington senior Abdul Gaddy among the nominees.
Gaddy, from Tacoma’s Bellarmine Prep, ranks third on the team with a 13.4 points per game average and leads the team with 3.7 assists per game. The two-time team captain is Pac-12’s active career leader and ranks seventh in UW history with 349 career assists. He has dished out four assists or more in each of his past five games.
The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic great Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men’s college basketball. More than 80 candidates have been nominated for the award.
The watch list will be pared down to 20 around the first of January, to 10 about Feb. 1 and to the final five about March 1.
Previous winners of the Bob Cousy Award include Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph’s), Raymond Felton (North Carolina), Dee Brown (Illinois), Acie Law (Texas A&M), DJ Augustin (Texas), Ty Lawson (North Carolina), Greivis Vasquez (Maryland), Kemba Walker (Connecticut) and last year’s recipient, Kendall Marshall (North Carolina).
