The Mariners Tuesday recalled OF Mike Carp from the 15-day disabled list and placed C Miguel Olivo, injured in the ninth inning of Monday night’s game against Tampa Bay, on the 15-day DL with an injury to his right groin. Carp, who had been on a rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma, will be available for Tuesday night’s game (second of a four-game series) against the Rays.
Olivo, 33, was injured in the ninth inning of Monday’s 3-2, 12-inning loss while fielding a ball between the mound and home plate. Olivo, who had hit a home run earlier in the contest, was in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak during which he batted .333 (11-for-33) with 3 home runs and 4 RBIs.
For the season, Olivo was hitting .210 (17-for-81) with 2 doubles, four homers and seven RBIs. He had started 19 of the teams first 24 games behind the plate.
Carp suffered a sprained right shoulder diving for a Kurt Suzuki double in the fourth inning March 28 in the Japan Opening Series against Oakland. During his rehab assignment with Tacoma, Carp hit .137 (7-for-51) with two doubles and 4 RBIs.
