University of Washington sophomore Jernard Jarreau will miss the remainder of the 2013-14 season after suffering an ACL tear in his right knee in the first half against Seattle U Sunday, the school announced Wednesday. Jarreau will undergo surgery, although when is not known.
Jarreau scored 17 points and added nine rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal in the Huskies’ exhibition game against Central Washington a week ago after averaging 3.2 ppg and 2.6 rpg in 2012-13.
In the SUgame, Jarreau collapsed 93 seconds after the opening tip when his right knee buckled after he pushed it off the floor while going for a layup attempt following a steal. Jarreau was scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday, but that was pushed back to Tuesday.
Jarreau, who figured to start, is a New Orleans native. The Huskies play there against Tulane Dec. 17.
Washington (1-0) plays at 8 p.m. Thursday against UC Irvine at Alaska Airlines Arena.
