The Mariners Tuesday recalled C Jesus Sucre to take the roster spot of John Buck, designated for assignment immediately after Seattle’s 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins Monday night. The 26-year-old Sucre will be available when Seattle continues its series against Minnesota at 7 p..m. Tuesday.
Sucre hit .274 (48×175) with 13 runs, seven doubles, one triple, two home runs and 16 RBIs in 48 games, including 45 starts at catcher, with AAA Tacoma. Over his last 10 games, Sucre batted .375 (15×40) with seven runs, five doubles, one home run and two RBIs. Sucre has caught 21 of 41 of attempted base stealers.
In 2013, Sucre appeared in eight games with Seattle, all starts.
Buck, 34, appeared in 27 games, including 24 starts (C 19, DH 5) and hit .226 (19×84) with nine runs, two doubles, one home run and 6 RBIs.
Regular catcher Mike Zunino has 13 home runs, but is batting .203 since June 1. In four July games, he’s batting .118.
RHP Chris Young (8-4, 3.11) will pitch for the Mariners Tuesday night opposite RHP Phil Hughes (8-5, 3.95).

An odd move. Gotta wonder if Buck had a bonus about to kick in and the M’s avoid paying it by DFAing him.
