The Mariners Thursday recalled OF Stefen Romero from AAA Tacoma and optioned LHP Lucas Luetge back to the Rainiers. Romero will be available to the Mariners when they begin the second half of the season Friday night with the first of three games against the Angels in Anaheim.
The 25-year-old Romero appeared in 11 games with Tacoma following his option June 29. In 11 starts in right field, Romero batted .283 (13×46) with two doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs. In 51 games with the Mariners, Romero hit .196 (29×148) with six doubles, two triples, three home runs and 11 RBIs.
Luetge, 27, was recalled from Tacoma July 10 and made one appearance with the Mariners. In three separate stints with Seattle he appeared in four games and recorded a 5.40 ERA (2 ER, 3.1 IP). In 26 relief appearances with the Rainiers, he is 3-1 with two saves and a 3.40 ERA (15 ER, 39.2 IP).
Hisashi Iwakuma (8-4, 2.98) will open the second half. Iwakuma is 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA, no walks and 25 strikeouts in his last three outings. He missed the first month with a torn finger tendon but appears back to his 2013 All-Star form. He’s 5-0 with a 1.49 ERA in his career vs. the Angels.

the mariners are stupid not to bring up jesus montero and let him dh. give the guy a chance. he’s hit well at tacoma and the mariners’s dh slot is woeful. won’t cost them any prospects or salary. team seems so dumb sometimes.
More player movement for the sake of it. The Mariners should replace the clubhouse door with a turnstile.
