Sounders forward Chad Barrett Tuesday was voted Player of the Week for week 11 of the MLS season. With Obafemi Martins idled with a bone bruise, Barrett tallied a pair of goals that gave Seattle a 2-0 Cascadia Cup victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday at B.C. Place.
Making his second start of the season, Barrett got his first goal in the fifth minute on a right-footed redirection from Cliff Dempsey. He scored again in the 38th on an assist from Marco Pappa.
The win vaulted the Sounders into first place in the Cascadia Cup standings. The brace marked Barrett’s first since May 8, 2010, when he scored twice in Toronto FC’s 4-1 win over the Chicago Fire.
The Sounders return to action at 7 p.m. Saturday (JoeTV) when they host Sporting Kansas City.
