Cougs hire ACC broadcaster for football, hoops

Matt Chazanow, a veteran of Atlantic Coast Conference and Big East football and basketball broadcasts, will call the play-by-play for both sports at Washington State. The school said Wednesday that Cougar IMG Sports Marketing, the university’s multimedia rights partner, made the decision. Chazanow will also do baseball.

“Matt has tremendous broadcast credentials, including having called hundreds of games on the IMG Network the past seven years,” said Chris Ferris, VP of broadcasting for IMG College. “We’re very excited to have a single personality unifying WSU’s major sports and contributing to world-class broadcasts.”

Chazanow has extensive experience in broadcasting, including calling national play-by-play broadcasts for ACC football, Big East and ACC postseason basketball, along with SEC and ACC postseason baseball. As a senior network manager at IMG College in Winston-Salem, N.C., Chazanow has spent the past seven years managing eight IMG college network broadcasts (Washington State, Arizona, Cal, Gonzaga, Oregon, Texas, UCLA and Washington).

Chazanow in November called the WSU men’s basketball broadcasts at the Great Alaska Shootout.

Nameck has spent the past 13 years as a member of the Cougars football broadcast team. He served as the sideline reporter from 2002-13 before transitioning to play-by-play duties for the start of the 2013 season. Nameck also served as the voice of men’s basketball since the start of the 1993-94 campaign.

“I have had the best seat in the house for more than 30 years being able to broadcast WSU sports,” Nameck said. “I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of Cougar nation.  I am grateful to have created Cougar friendships over the years that will last a lifetime.”

Chazanow will team with legendary broadcaster Bob Robertson, along with Jason Gesser and Jessamyn McIntyre, on the football broadcasts. Steven Grubbs, who has called baseball broadcasts for the past 10 seasons, remains as the voice of Cougar volleyball and women’s basketball.
