Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson was added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster Thursday as an injury replacement for Green Bay’s John Kuhn, who is unable to participate due to an injury in the Packers’ playoff loss to the New York Giants last weekend. It is Robinson’s first Pro Bowl appearance.
Robinson, a quarterback at Penn State, helped Marshawn Lynch become the Seahawks’ first 1,000-yarder rusher since 2005 and score in a club-record 11 consecutive games. Robinson also helped the Seahawks average 134.9 yards on the ground the final nine games.
Additionally, Robinson in 2011 scored the first receiving touchdown of his career, returned a blocked punt for a touchdown, finished tied for third with 10 coverage tackles on special teams and forced a fumble that set up a touchdown.
Robinson’s receiving touchdown came Dec. 18 in a 38-14 Seattle win over the Bears when Robinson caught a two-yard scoring toss from Tarvaris Jackson. Robinson returned a blocked punt by Doug Baldwin 17 yards for a touchdown in a 30-13 win over St. Louis Dec. 12.
The Pro Bowl will be played Jan. 29 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, where Robinson will join Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas, voted a starter on the NFC squad.
Robinson, who threw the key block that sprang loose Lynch for his famous 67-yard touchdown run against New Orleans in the 2010 playoffs, becomes the third Seahawks fullback to play in the Pro Bowl, joining John L. Williams (1990-91) and Mack Strong (2005-06).
