The Seattle Seahawks, who have not made much hay in free agency in recent days, re-signed two of their own, linebackers Leroy Hill and Matt McCoy, Thursday. The Seahawks could still use some linebackers, having recently lost leading tackler David Hawthorne to the New Orleans Saints.
Hill spent his seven-year career in Seattle since being selected in the third round (98th overall) of the 2005 NFL draft. He started all 16 games for the first time in his career in 2011, posting the second-highest tackle total of his career with 89 (68 solo), adding four sacks and one forced fumble.
Hill played in 84 career games with 77 starts, totaling 456 tackles (344 solo), 18.5 sacks and 11 passes defensed. Hill’s Seahawks career appeared in jeopardy after a Feb. 25 arrest for marijuana possession at his Atlanta condo in February, but charges were later dropped after a urine test was negative. Hill was arrested for marijuana possession in 2009 and received probation.
McCoy signed with the Seahawks March 17, 2010, after spending his first five seasons with Philadelphia, New Orleans and Tampa Bay. He was the Eagles’ second-round pick (63rd overall) in the 2005 draft.
McCoy led Seattle with a career-high 19 special-teams tackles in 2010. His 2011 season was cut short after four games, with one star, due to a knee injury. McCoy has played in 65 career games with 13 starts, recording 114 tackles (70 solo), 2.0 sacks and 72 special teams tackles.
