Seattle manager Eric Wedge hoped to have ace Felix Hernandez pitch Sunday’s series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers. As a precaution, Wedge allowed Hernandez to rest his ailing back until Tuesday, when he is scheduled to start against the San Diego Padres.

The 23-year-old Beavan, in his second major league season and second with the Mariners, will be making his 12th start and first against the Dodgers. Beavan is coming off a 6-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
A native of Irving, TX., the 6-7, 240-pound Beavan was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round (17th pick) of the 2007 amateur draft.
After pitching in the minor leagues from 2008-11, Beavan made his major league debut July 3 against the San Diego Padres. He worked 7 IP, allowed three hits, two walks and one earned run in a 3-1 Seattle victory at Safeco Field.
Beavan became a Mariner July 9, 2010, when the Rangers traded him, along with Matthew Lawson (minors), Josh Lueke and Justin Smoak to Seattle for Cliff Lee, Mark Lowe and cash.
Beavan had 15 starts for the Mariners in 2011 and has a career record of 8-11, 4.63 ERA.

The 27-year-old Billingsley, in his seventh major league season, all with the Dodgers, will make his 13th start and first against the Mariners. Billingsley is coming off a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
A native of Defiance, OH., the 6-1, 240-pound Billingsley attended Defiance High School. The Dodger selected him in the first round (24th pick) of the 2003 amateur draft.
Billingsley pitched in the Dodgers system until June 15, 2006, when he made his major league debut in a 7-3 Los Angeles victory over the San Diego Padres. Billingsley started the game, but took a no decision after allowing two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings.
Billingsley went 7-4, 3.80 in 2006, making 16 starts. He has been a fixture since in the Dodgers rotation.
Billingsley had his best year in 2008, compiling a 16-10 record and 3.14 ERA. He went 12-11 in 2009-10 and last year went 11-11, 4.21. Billingsley has appeared on a National League leader board once, leading the league in wild pitches with 14 in 2008.
An All-Star in 2009, Billingsley has career record of 73-56, 3.68.

- May 8: Kevin Millwood’s 2-0 shutout marked his first in nearly nine years. He did not surrender his first hit until there were two outs in the sixth. Millwood’s complete game also was the first by a Mariner in 2012.
- May 27: The pinch-hit grand slam allowed by Felix Hernandez to Alberto Callaspo marked just the sixth against the Mariners in 35 years, and the first since May 6, 1988 when Pat Sheridan of Detroit hit one off Mike Jackson.
- May 30: Mariners defeated Texas 21-8, just the third time in franchise history they have scored 20 or more runs in a game. The Mariners, with 20 hits, became the first team since 1880 to score 20 runs in a game in the same season it also go perfect-oed.
- June 8: Kevin Millwood and five relievers collaborated for the 10th combined no-hitter in major league history in a 1-0 win over the Dodgers at Safeco Field. Millwood (6.0), Charlie Furbush (0.2), Stephen Pryor (0.1), Lucas Luetge (0.1), Brandon League (0.2), and Tom Wilhelmsen (1.0) tied the MLB record for most pitchers used in a no-hitter (Houston vs. the Yankees June 11, 2003). It marked the third no-hitter in Mariners history.
