The Mariners Friday activated RHP Tom Wilhelmsen from the 15-day disabled list and optioned RHP Dominic Leone to AAA Tacoma. Wilhelmsen last appeared April 10 vs. Oakland. Leone has allowed three walk-off hits this season, including a home run to rookie Carlos Perez of the Angels Tuesday in Perez’s debut game.
The 31-year-old Wilhelmsen, on the DL with a hyperextended elbow, has made two appearances this year, allowing five hits and two runs in 2.2 innings. He threw 25 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday in Anaheim.
Leone, 23, was 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA (5 ER, 8.1 IP) with four strikeouts in eight appearances after being recalled April 13. Before his recall, he made one appearance with the Rainiers, facing three batters in one scoreless inning April 10.
The Mariners (11-17, 5th, AL West), begin a three-game series with the Oakland Athletics Friday night at Safeco Field. Taijuan Walker (1-3, 8.74) will throw for the Mariners opposite RHP Sonny Gray (4-0, 1.67).

Hope the Bartender’s return jumpstarts the bullpen. With him gone roles have been juggled around and they’ve been missing his presence. Danny especially was carrying a larger load and didn’t seem to respond well to that.
