QB Russell Wilson has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee that, with a brace and rehab, may allow him to play Sunday in New York against the Jets, according to coach Pete Carroll. But the news was not as good for RB Thomas Rawls, who is out “a few weeks” with damage to the fibula that is cracked.
“He feels great,” Carroll said of Wilson in his Monday pressser on ESPN 710. “He’s s been rehabbing all night. He can move around, walking fine. You can’t tell anything. He’s really excited about the thought that he will be able to maybe make it through this thing.
As for playing Sunday, Carroll said: “We’ll see what happens. We’re going to the right thing.”
The MCL helps with knee stability, Carroll said, which is why a brace will help compensate. Asked about further damage to the knee by playing, Carroll said, “There’s always risk. That’s what we are going to determine. And there are accidents that happen, too. So we will gauge all of that.”
Regarding Rawls, “It’s a little worse than we thought,” he said. Rawls was injured in Los Angeles when he was kicked in the shin, Carroll said after the 9-3 loss. He sat out the 37-18 win over San Francisco Sunday, but Carroll seemed optimistic after the game.
After the Seahawks ran for 127 yards Sunday, including a career-best 106 yards from starter Christine Michael on 20 carries, the ground game doesn’t appear in trouble. But if Michael gets hurt, the Seahawks will be down to rookies Alex Collins and C.J. Prosise, the latter still out with a cracked bone in his wrist.
