The Mariners made four roster moves Friday afternoon, summoning RHPs Casey Lawrence and Cody Martin from AAA Tacoma, optioning RHP Andrew Moore back to the Rainiers and designating INF Tyler Smith for assignment. Lawrence and Martin were available for Friday’s game against the New York Mets at Safeco Field.
Lawrence, 29, has been up twice before. He has a 5.71 ERA in stints May 17-June 2 and June 12-13. The 6-foot, 175-pounder struck out nine over five innings in relief June 1 vs. Colorado, setting the single-game club record for strikeouts by a reliever.
The Mariners claimed Lawrence off waivers from Toronto May 11 after he was designated for assignment. He was 0-3 with an 8.78 ERA in 14 games with Toronto.
Martin has a 3.81 ERA in 12 games with the Rainiers. He started two games for Seattle last year.
Moore, 23, is 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA in six starts with the Mariners. Since being recalled from AAA Tacoma July 3, he went 0-3 with a 6.07 ERA and 10 home runs allowed. The 6-foot, 195-pounder from Oregon State began the season with AA Arkansas and then was promoted to Tacoma.
Smith, 26, is batting .231 with six home runs and 28 RBIs in 84 games with Tacoma. The 6-foot, 195-pounder made his MLB debut with the Mariners June 2 vs. Tampa Bay. In 10 games with Seattle this season, he hit .188..
The Mariners were to start LHP Ariel Miranda (7-4, 4.30) against RHP Rafael Montero (1-7, 5.19).
