Former University of Washington forward Desmond Simmons, who said in March that he would transfer, has selected St. Mary’s (CA.) of the West Coast Conference as his destination. The fifth-year senior, who faced reduced minutes in 2014-15 at UW, will be eligible to play for the Gaels next season.

The heavy rain in New York came as predicted Wednesday and postponed the Mariners game at Yankee Stadium.  The teams won’t play a doubleheader Thursday, the final of a three-game series, but will make up the game on June 2, an off-day for both. The Mariners play a two-game series in Atlanta starting June 3.

The Sounders Sunday recalled midfielder/forward David Estrada from loan with the Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League. Estrada, who joined Seattle in 2010, played 207 minutes in three appearances after joining Atlanta April 3.

The Seahawks hired former Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland a a pre-draft consultant, according to ESPN and Fox Sports. It is unclear whether Ireland, who parted ways with the Dolphins Jan. 7 following the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin bullying incident, will remain with Seattle once the draft (May 8-10) is completed.

LHP Lucas Luetge was recalled Friday from AAA Tacoma to fill a roster vacancy. The Mariners did not need to make another move since they sent INL/OF Nick Franklin and RHP Erasmo Ramierez to the minor leagues following Wednesday’s 5-3 victory over the Houston Astros.
