The Mariners Friday signed LHP Joe Beimel and RHP Mark Rogers as minor league free agents and invited them to spring training. Beimel, 36, spent last season with AAA Gwinnett, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, while Rogers spent most of last year on the 60-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.

The Mariners made it official Friday, announcing the promotion of Kevin Mather, the club’s executive vice-president of finance and ballpark operations, to team president, replacing the retiring Chuck Armstrong. The Sounders Tuesday selected midfielders Stefano Rijssel (55th overall) and Fabio Pereira (77th overall) in the final two rounds of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The 21-year-old Rijssel is a veteran of five pro seasons in Trinidad and Tobago and his native Suriname, while the 22-year-old Pereira played four seasons at the University of Michigan.
