The Mariners Tuesday placed SS Jean Segura on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, selected INF Mike Freeman from AAA Tacoma and designated LHP Paul Fry for assignment. Segura, who had four multi-hit games heading into the home opener, was injured early in Seattle’s 6-0 victory over the Houston Astros Monday.
Under terms of a new contract extension, Washington’s Chris Petersen will reportedly earn an average of $4.9 million per year. He is signed through 2023.

The Mariners Thursday activated lefty reliever Dillon Overston from the paternity list and optioned RHP Chase De Jong to AAA Tacoma to make room on the 25-man roster. Overton was to be available Thursday night when Seattle concludes a four-game series with the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park (5:10 p.m. PT, Root).

Felix Hernandez is “100 percent” ready to make his start Saturday against the Angels in Anaheim, Mariners manager Scott Servais said. Hernandez tweaked a groin muscle Monday against the Astros and departed after five innings in what became the first of three consecutive losses to open the season.
